No. 20 Marin Catholic rolls in league opener

Host Marin Catholic-Kentfield took advantage of two early turnovers to score twice in the first 48 seconds en route to a running-clock 49-14 victory in the league opener for both teams Saturday.

After Redwood fumbled the opening kickoff, Marin Catholic quarterback Spencer Petras found Hunter Juarez on an 8-yard scoring pass.

Running back Matthew De Donatis, a senior transfer from the Modesto area, carried 10 times for 177 yards and had Marin Catholic’s two second-half touchdowns.

Running back Nick Calzaretta scored both touchdowns for Redwood and finished with 92 yards rushing.

Joe DeLuca threw two touchdown passes and six Dragons found the end zone in a win at St. Mary’s (0-4), which got a 9-yard touchdown run from Ryan Jenkins.

Christopher Lucas, A.J. Schabbing and Austin Jones added short rushing touchdowns and Jevon Holland returned a punt 65 yards for another score for the Dragons (3-0), who got two field goals and six extra points from Trey Miller.

Sam Williamson took a screen pass from Gordon Faust and rambled 15 yards for the go-ahead score with 1:05 left as the visiting Highlanders (3-1) beat the Pride (2-1).
