Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa head coach Paul Cronin doesn’t have enough fingers to count all the ways he appreciates third-year starting quarterback Jordan Brookshire.

The week after the Analy win, he threw for more than 300 yards in a 42-7 victory at Casa Grande-Petaluma.

Cronin, a former college quarterback in his 13th season at Newman, has coached some good ones including Cleveland Browns linebacker Scooby Wright, along with a strong line of quarterbacks such as Ryan Lingle, Max Pond, Matt Sullivan and the Wright brothers (no relation to Scooby), Kyle and Randy.

Brookshire, who also has lined up at strong safety and outside linebacker, is as good as any of them, Cronin said.

There are no college offers yet, Brookshire said, but a lot of discussion with Big Sky and Mountain West conference schools.

“At his size and athletic ability, he definitely looks the part of a D1 athlete,” he said.

Brookshire said his favorite player was Michael Vick until the NFL quarterback’s felony charges for a dog-fighting ring.

Brookshire has plenty of options in receivers Damian Wallace (70 catches, 1,100 yards, 24 TDs last season) and sophomore Chauncy LeBerthon, and running backs Tanner Mendoza, Mark Boschetti and Irvin Mann.

Cronin said by the time Brookshire’s season is done, he’ll have more than 10,000 career total yards and 100 touchdowns.
