De La Salle tops Clayton Valley in NCS playoffs

Throughout a three-season run that has seen two California Interscholastic Federation State Bowl appearances, the Clayton Valley-Concord football team has never lacked for confidence.

Robinson rushed for 188 yards and four touchdowns as De La Salle (10-1) rolled to a 28-0 semifinal win in the North Coast Section Open Division semifinal.

The top-seeded Spartans meet the winner of Saturday’s semifinal between No. 2 seed Freedom-Oakley and third-seeded Pittsburg in the Dec. 2 championship game.

Tre White returned the opening kickoff 40 yards to just past midfield.

Robinson then rumbled 49 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage.

Fourth-seeded Clayton Valley (9-2) ran 33 more plays than De La Salle and put up 299 yards of total offense, but the Spartans’ defense clamped down when it mattered.

With the score tied at 14, the top-seeded Mustangs (11-1) took advantage of two turnovers and a failed fourth-down play to score on two short Shane Perry TD runs and a scoring pass from Jake Haener to Erik Krommenhoek to take a commanding 35-14 halftime lead they wouldn’t relinquish against the visiting Patriots (7-5) in the Division 1 game.

Jack Newman found Spencer Vogel for a 34-yard touchdown pass with 3:18 left and the top-seeded Tigers (11-1) had the lead for good in the Division 3 game.

Menlo-Atherton 21, Bellarmine 0: A superb defensive effort helped the host Bears (10-2) vanquish the Bells (7-5) — who had beaten them in the season opener — and reach the Open Division 1 championship.

After injuries forced Serra QB Leki Nunn to shift to running back with sophomore Luke Bottari taking over under center, the visiting Padres (8-4) pulled away from the Lancers (10-2) in the Open Division 2 game.

Mitty 24, Los Gatos 7: A 6-yard run by Zondre Faraj-Washington and 76-yard interception return by Keaton Collier — both in the fourth quarter — broke open a 10-7 game as the visiting Monarchs (7-5) beat the Wildcats (8-4) to reach the Open Division 2 final
