High school football: playoff games of the week

High school football: playoff games of the week

First-round playoff games in the North Coast and Central Coast sections are schedule Friday and Saturday.

Here’s a look at the 10 most intriguing matchups (for a complete schedule, see B6):

Expect a great offensive show featuring SRV QB Clark Baker (2,478 yards, 30 TDs) and Antioch RB Najee Harris (2,027 yards, 27 TDs).

Each team more than held its own against its one common opponent: top-ranked De La Salle; SRV lost 28-27 and Antioch fell 28-21.

Oak Grove eliminated Mitty, 53-35, in the opening round last year — the first of three consecutive wins over WCAL foes on the way to a surprising section championship.

NCS D1 (7 p.m. Saturday), No. 5 San Leandro (6-4) at No. 4 Heritage-Brentwood (7-3): Great matchup of San Leandro’s ground game led by Omari Land (1,165 yards, 16 TDs) and Heritage’s passing game and QB Nick Zell (2,293 yards, 31 TDs).

NCS D1 (7 p.m. Saturday), No. 6 Foothill-Pleasanton (6-4) at No. 3 California-San Ramon (8-2): California won the first meeting of the EBAL foes , 28-15, but Foothill coach Matt Sweeney — with 266 career wins — usually offers a few wrinkles.

Junior QB Ben Wooldridge is a college prospect.

Redwood’s attack centers around the area’s top rusher, Nick Calzaretta (2,180 rushing yards, 36 TDs).

Eden-Hayward (7-3) at No. 4 Livermore (5-5): The hosts put together their first non-losing season since 1999, but must deal with one of the area’s most dynamic players, Mt.

Leigh averages 30.6 per game and features 5-9, 225-pound RB Michael Brohn (1,166 yards, 11 TDs).
