McClymonds wins Silver Bowl with 49-12 victory over Castlemont

McClymonds’ seventh straight Silver Bowl championship and 50th consecutive win over an Oakland Athletic League opponent looked a lot like the previous ones: decisive, quick-hitting and impressive. The Warriors (11-1) got four touchdown passes and a TD run from junior quarterback Emoreea Fountain and 131 yards rushing and two touchdowns scored by Jerrell Alberty to trounce Castlemont 49-12 Friday at Laney College. Castlemont (6-6) moved the ball effectively behind quarterback Michael Bell (185 yards passing, one touchdown) and Jihad Stephens (72 yards rushing, one TD), but turnovers and penalties at inopportune times squashed the Knights’ hopes. Epitomizing that was a pretty 68-yard drive in the second quarter, but on 2nd-and-goal from the 6, Bell double-pumped before throwing a pass that was intercepted in the end zone by Angelo Garrett, who took it back 102 yards for a touchdown, making it 28-0. Fountain was fantastic all night, rushing 11 times for 102 yards and completing 9 of 17 passes for 120 yards, with TD passes to four receivers. Mitch Stephens covers high school sports for The San Francisco Chronicle and is a senior writer for MaxPreps.com
