Preview of Northern California Open Division 1st-round games

Preview of Northern California Open Division 1st-round games

    Friday’s first-round games

No. 5 seed Salesian-Richmond (27-4) at No. 4 De La Salle-Concord (27-5), 7 p.m.: A rematch of last year’s first-round game at the same venue, won by De La Salle 51-45 in overtime.

Both teams are comfortable in slowdown mode.

St. Joseph was the favorite until its top player, Jade Smith, was ruled suspended for one more game after being ejected in a North Coast Section semifinal game.

Bellarmine will need to control tempo, but with experienced All-WCAL guards Angelo Athens and Jake Wojcik, it has the personnel.

St. Mary’s features one of the nation’s top juniors in 6-2 Aquira Decosta (18.4 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.6 steals per game).

Salesian’s 6-5 sophomore, Angel Jackson (11.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, 5.8 blocks), must stay out of foul trouble.

    No. 6 Bishop O’Dowd-Oakland (26-4) at No. 3 Pinewood-Los Altos Hills (24-3), 7 p.m.: A rematch of a first-round game last year when host Pinewood prevailed 50-45.
