Mission High tops San Marin 63-40 in NorCal Division 3 playoff

Mission High’s boys team took a 10-0 lead, finished the third quarter on a 22-1 run, did not trail and routed San Marin-Novato 63-40 in a first-round Northern California Division 3 playoff game Wednesday at Kezar Pavilion.

The Bears got 14 points each from Niamey Harris (who also had 12 rebounds) and Jamison Wright, but Mission head coach Arnold Zelaya wasn’t exactly celebrating.

Mission couldn’t penetrate the San Marin zone and, after a slow start, eventually got hot from the perimeter, especially Wright and Jayden Foston (13 points), who each made four three-pointers.

A driving layup by Joe Milliares cut the Mission lead to 28-25, when the Bears caught fire.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Wright started the 22-1 run to close the third, and Mission was on its way to its 20th straight victory.

In D4 at Kezar Pavilion, Joe Foley and Thomas Brown had 21 points apiece and Riley Woodson dominated down low with 15 points and 17 rebounds as ninth seed Menlo (20-7) reversed a regular-season loss to University (26-5), which got 14 points and nine rebounds from Spencer Spivy.

Menlo plays top-seeded Palma-Salinas in a quarterfinal game Saturday.

In D1, Montana-bound Tim Falls had 19 points and freshman Robby Beasley added 16 as top-seeded Dublin (29-4) beat San Francisco Section runner-up Lowell (21-8), which got 13 points from Isaac Firestone.

In D1, junior Max Dorward hit back-to-back buckets to break a 52-52 tie and the visting Vikings (24-4) did not trail again as they took down the Oakland Section champion in a tight affair between No. 8 and 9 seeds.

In D1, Tyrese Mack sank a game-winning three-pointer with 5.9 seconds left to lift the second-seeded Patriots (27-4) over the Grizzlies (17-13).

Three other players finished in double figures for Heritage, which will host Menlo-Atherton in a quarterfinal Saturday.

In D1, Kai Winterling scored 11 of his team-high 16 in the fourth quarter as the host Bears (23-7) rallied from a 39-33 deficit after three quarters.

In D2, the visiting Golden Eagles (17-14) jumped to a 20-11 first-quarter lead and held off a late push to stun the fourth-seeded Dragons.

In D1, senior point guard Shani Jones scored 15 points to help the fifth-seeded Yellowjackets (18-11) overcome the visiting Wildcats (21-7), whose senior guard Josie Despairs had a game-high 32 points.

In D3, Haley Van Dyke scored 22 points and Aubrey Wagner added 15 as second-seeded Campolindo (24-6) advances to play San Marin, a 66-65 winner over Kimball.
