Lick-Wilmerding briefly put up a fight - the game was tied 8-8 less than three minutes in - but the Bruins went on a 15-5 run to finish the first quarter, had a 43-28 halftime lead and never led by less than 11 in a 73-55 win.
Palma picked the wrong time to play perhaps its worst game of the year, missing its first seven shots as the Bruins raced out to a 17-2 lead, kept the lead at 15 at halftime and pushed it to 33 in the fourth quarter before both teams emptied their benches.
The non-graduating starter is freshman Jalen Scott and state football champions Akil Edwards (a sophomore) and Marshel Martin (junior) will also return.
After missing more than a month because of injury, the 6-foot-6 freshman played in the NorCal semifinal against Lick-Wilmerding, but was in street clothes again for the Palma game.
According to a Bruin assistant coach, Jackson is not done growing and may top out at 6-10.
Saturday was only the fifth time a basketball team - boys or girls - from Vallejo played for a NorCal championship.
The Bruins lost the 2007 state title game (to Marlborough-Los Angeles), but in 2008 won what is still the city’s only state basketball championship, beating La Jolla Country Day, 67-52 in Sacramento.
The Chieftains have long been a Central Coast Section football powerhouse, with more than 40 postseason wins in school history and a 30-9 record the last three seasons.
