SPSV, Johnson going for 3rd championship — this school year

Mark Tennis, the writer and editor for Cal-Hi Sports who tracks the state’s best high school athletes, conceded he didn’t know much about St. Patrick-St.

Johnson began practicing with the football team before the first day of classes last summer, left the field for the court to play basketball, and is now a key member of the Bruins baseball team.

Was named the Tri-County League Rock Division football Player of the Year with 70 catches, 1,180 yards and 10 touchdowns as a receiver and 12 interceptions from his safety spot.

    Hit .520 with 22 steals, 16 RBIs and a .615 on-base percentage in 16 baseball games.

With Johnson playing a large role in all three sports, SPSV won its first school state championships in football (Division 6-A) and boys basketball (Division 4).

[...] on Saturday, the 13th-seeded Bruins (17-4-1) will play for their second North Coast Section Division 4 baseball crown when they meet No. 3 St. Joseph Notre Dame-Alameda (19-8) at 4 p.m. at Diablo Valley College.

Johnson is considering walking on to the Utah football team or playing multiple sports at Modesto Junior College.

In the Division 2 championship game at St. Mary’s College, Lexi San Fillippo hit a three-run homer to give the Minutemen a 5-0 lead just six batters into the game, and Concord (22-7) never let up in a mercy-rule win over the Cowboys (17-8) that produced the school’s fourth NCS title.

MaxPreps.com senior writer Mitch Stephens covers high school sports for The San Francisco Chronicle.
