Lessons learned from high school football openers

Here is some of what we learned during an eye-opening first week of the football season.

•Monte Vista-Danville running back and strong safety Zane Cribb is one versatile player. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound senior had 100 yards rushing, caught a touchdown pass and had three interceptions, the last of which preserved a 13-7 win at Deer Valley-Antioch.

•The Central Coast Section has a score to settle with the Sac-Joaquin Section, which handed CCS teams five losses in five games — including St. Mary’s-Stockton’s 41-13 victory over No. 2 Serra and Manteca’s 22-20 win over No. 8 Valley Christian.

•The SJS has a beef with the North Coast Section.
