    High school top 25: A tough first week

    It was a rough start for The Chronicle’s preseason top 25 as nine teams lost — including four of the top nine.

    Granted, No. 2 Serra and No. 6 Pittsburg lost to state juggernauts St. Mary’s-Stockton and Centennial-Corona, respectively. But both games were lopsided and largely over by halftime.

    Things weren’t mich better for previous No. 7 Clayton Valley-Concord — which was down by 30 at one point in the second half of a 38-22 loss to Reed-Sparks (Nev.) — and prior No. 11 Campolindo-Moraga, which trailed 35-7 entering the fourth quarter of a 42-21 defeat to then-No. 14 Marin Catholic-Kentfield.

    The top three teams this week — De La Salle-Concord, Milpitas and St.
