Clayton Valley jumps back into Chronicle’s high school football rankings

With nine byes, there didn’t figure to be much movement in The Chronicle’s Top 25 rankings, and among the top 11 teams, there was none.

Top-ranked De La Salle-Concord did lose — decisively so — but it was to three-time defending mythical national champion Bishop Gorman-Las Vegas. Plus, the Spartans still haven’t lost to a local opponent since 1991, a span of 282 games.

The biggest mover was Clayton Valley-Concord, which jumped 11 spots after defeating previous No. 14 Antioch 55-22. The Ugly Eagles, who slumped in three out-of-state games, looked like the team ranked fourth to start the season while taking a 49-0 lead in the third quarter.
