Cardinal Newman chaplain delivers homily, hope

Father Moses Brown lost his office and classroom along with all his Bibles and rosaries in the firestorm that ravaged Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa.

The school chaplain’s prized possession was a Bible belonging to his late mother, who received it from her grandfather, a Protestant minister.

“He stamped her name in gold in it. I don’t know how often she read it. But I know she had it. There was a lock of her hair in it. She wrote my birth in it. Other events like that. I’ll never see that Bible again,” Brown said during his homily at a community Mass at St. Rose Church in downtown Santa Rosa on Thursday night.
