In meeting of WCAL leaders, Serra stops Valley Christian

It’s World Series time and Serra football coach Patrick Walsh said the key to his team’s West Catholic Athletic League home game with Valley Christian was preventing the “home run.”

The Padres’ defense delivered and the offense added big plays — especially in the second half — in a resounding 35-7 victory Saturday.

Isiah Kendrick ripped off touchdown runs of 70 and 34 yards, quarterback Luke Bottari completed a 57-yard scoring pass to Chris Park and Serra’s defense allowed just 121 total yards as the Padres took command of the WCAL race.

No. 6 Serra (6-2, 5-0) needs two more wins to capture its first outright league title since Walsh took over in 2001.
