Division 3 football bracket looks like toughest in North Coast Section

With the opening of the North Coast Section football playoffs, and the final week of the regular season for everyone else, here are some thoughts, projections and facts:

•The most interesting NCS bracket by far is Division 3. The combined record of the top nine seeds is 72-10, including a combined 20-0 from No. 6 and No. 7 Eureka and Encinal-Alameda. Eight of the 16 are ranked among The Chronicle’s Top 25.

With a Metro Player of the Year finalist in quarterback Robby Rowell, fifth-seeded Acalanes-Lafayette (8-1) might have its best team in school history. Its only loss was to Open Division fourth-seed Clayton Valley-Concord, 35-21.
