Bishop O’Dowd given ‘laughable’ No. 4 D-3 seed

No matter how it might have affected his team, Bishop O’Dowd-Oakland coach Napoleon Kaufman said he will not schedule lesser oppponents.

The Dragons (7-2) were seeded fourth Sunday in the rugged North Coast Section Division 3 playoffs, the same one they won last season.

O’Dowd, which won a state Division 5-AA title last year, was seeded behind No. 1 Marin Catholic-Kentfield (8-0), No. 2 Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa (7-2) and No. 3 Rancho Cotate-Rohnert Park (8-1).

Losses to top Open Division seed De La Salle-Concord (45-24) and Division 1 second seed Freedom-Oakley (42-21) seemed to hurt O’Dowd’s seedings. Both are large-school squads.
