Chronicle top 25 football: Little movement after a bye-filled week

Six of The Chronicle’s top seven teams and eight overall had byes last week. Three other teams lost, but all to other ranked squads, including previous No. 5 St. Francis 31-21 to No. 4 Serra to decide the West Catholic Athletic League title.

Previous No. 23 Menlo-Atherton and No. 24 El Cerrito dropped out of the rankings and were replaced by No. 24 Miramonte-Orinda (8-3), which edged El Cerrito 31-30. The Matadors fought back from deficits of 24-6 in the middle of the third quarter and 30-19 in the final four minutes to prevail.

San Leandro, which has played one of the toughest schedules in the Bay Area, piled up almost 700 yards in a 68-14 North Coast Section D1 first-round win over Berkeley.
