Nikko Kitchen caught a short pass, bounced off a prospective tackler and off he went, 57 yards for a touchdown in Friday night’s North Coast Section Division 3 quarterfinal at Santa Rosa Junior College.
Now that’s a senior-year memory to cherish.
Kitchen and his Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa teammates made sure their unforgettable, fire-ravaged season will last past Thanksgiving. The Cardinals conquered previously unbeaten Encinal-Alameda, rolling to a 49-32 victory.
The win was especially meaningful for the five Cardinal Newman players, including Kitchen, who lost their family houses Oct. 9 in the Tubbs Fire.
