Lincoln controlled the clock and the ball, but Galileo won an exciting 22-17 San Francisco Section semifinal home game Friday.
Yarvell Smith broke loose on a 76-yard touchdown run with 6:02 left in the fourth quarter to put his team ahead. From there, the Galileo defense bent but didn’t break as Reese Bickart intercepted a pass with 40 seconds left to preserve the victory.
Galileo (8-2), the second seed, will play top-seeded Mission (8-3) in the 1 p.m. title game next Saturday at Kezar Stadium. The winner advances to the state tournament. Mission defeated Galileo 40-36 in their regular-season matchup.
“We were excited to win a great game,” Galileo coach Mark Huynh said.
