The winner of the North Coast Section Division 1 championship will not advance to the Northern California regional playoffs.
And no one is complaining about it.
That’s because for fans of and participants in Saturday’s matchup between top-seeded Liberty-Brentwood (10-2) and No. 2 Freedom-Oakley (9-2) at Heritage, this game provides all the excitement, buildup and competition it could ever want.
The two district and Bay Valley Athletic League rivals, located about 3 miles apart, square off annually in what’s known as “The Bell Game” to end the regular season.
