The ninth-year head coach led the Mustangs to San Francisco Section titles his first two seasons starting in 2009, breaking a string of 14 consecutive championships by Lowell.
“That was very special,” he said.
But this — a CIF Northern California Division 3 title and a spot in Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. state championship match against Point Loma-San Diego (22-12) at Santiago Canyon College in Orange County — is a little beyond special.
Before this season, no San Francisco Section team had won even a Northern California playoff match.
