The Spartans, who have won seven state titles and have been the gold standard for high school football nationally for three decades, fumbled five times in the first two quarters and lost two. They also gave up a pick-six. Ultimately, the Hornet Stadium scoreboard told the tale of the CIF State Open Division championship game: Mater Dei-Santa Ana 52, De La Salle 21.
