Another grand Bay Area season produced five state champions, one up from last season.
Serra (D2-AA), St. Francis (D2-A), Milpitas (D4-A), McClymonds-Oakland (D5-AA) and Galileo (D6-A) all claimed titles. It was a first for all, except for McClymonds which won its second state crown.
The last Chronicle Metro rankings we did was Nov. 27. There wasn’t much movement, except Liberty-Brentwood shot up four spots with a startling 37-0 win over previous No. 11 Freedom-Oakley in the North Coast Section Division 1 finals.
There were a couple of close calls and tough decisions. Serra over Pittsburg at the No. 2 spot seems odd considering the Pirates won at Serra 35-28 in Week 3 of the season.
