Northern California high schools dominate distance races at state track meet

Saturday marked the 100th anniversary of the best prep athletic event in California: the CIF Track and Field Championships at Buchanan-Clovis (Fresno County).

Apparently half the state was more excited than the other.

Northern California — specifically, the North Coast, Central Coast and Sac-Joaquin sections — put on a dazzling display in a meet largely dominated by Southern California’s Southern Section.

The Northern California sections took boys’ crowns in the 400, 800, 1,600, 3,200, pole vault and long jump, and girls titles in the 200, 400, 800, 1,600, 3,200, pole vault and triple jump.
