Ryan Partridge was almost apologetic.
The second-year Liberty-Brentwood football coach was up by 50 points en route to a 57-0 victory over defending Central Coast Section Division 5 champion Gilroy in the fourth of five games of the Honor Bowl at St. Francis in Mountain View on Saturday.
“It was a little awkward,” he said. “Should I let (Jay) Butterfield throw any more passes? The guys had a long offseason and need the repetitions.”
His message to the team at halftime?
“Good job, first-teamers, you’re done. Second-teamers, go out and earn some first-team playing time,” he said.
The second team really didn’t have a chance.
