Quarterback Jackson Pavitt threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns as 11th-ranked Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa defeated perennial Northern Section power Sutter 24-0 on Friday.
It was the first home game for Cardinal Newman (2-0) since half of its school was destroyed in the Tubbs Fire last fall. Then the most destructive fire in California history, the blaze flattened Santa Rosa neighborhoods and destroyed the homes of several players.
