With his senior linebacker lying on the field awaiting paramedics for a trip to the hospital, Liberty High football coach Ryan Partridge told the fallen Nicky Einess that the Lions were going to win Saturday’s CIF Division 1-A Northern California Bowl game for him.
“He just said, ‘Please do,’ in this voice that almost made me cry,” Partridge said.
Einess, who had feeling in all his extremities, left host Valley Christian’s Warrior Field in an ambulance in a precautionary move after a helmet-to-helmet collision. That was before the start of the fourth quarter with the score tied. Approximately 20 minutes later, the Liberty defense sealed a 33-21 win over Warriors with a 25-yard fumble return by Darrion Bartley.
