Haley Jones gathered a defensive rebound, dribbled the length of the court, made a pretty pivot and knocked down a short jumper.
That was the first points of the game for the nation’s top-rated player though Mitty had already piled up 17, en route to a 66-45 throttling of fourth-ranked Salesian-Richmond on Saturday in the premier game of the Elite is Earned New Year Classic at Miramonte-Orinda.
“Just shows we’re deeper than ever and I can be a facilitator,” Jones said.
Jones, a 6-foot-2 wing who has committed to Stanford, got things going in the second half, scoring 17 of her game-high 24 points.
