The good news for De La Salle-Concord boys basketball coach Justin Argenal on Friday night was that his seventh-ranked Spartans earned a 63-54 win at No. 14 Dougherty Valley-San Ramon.
Thomas Gregorios had 17 points, Andrew Flannigan 14 and Jack Byers drilled four straight 3-pointers, leading De La Salle (16-2, 6-0 East Bay Athletic League) past the Wildcats (13-6, 2-4).
“We were down at halftime (28-27) and Dougherty Valley just played harder than us,” Argenal said. “But I think we flipped that around the second half, and when it mattered most we really responded.”
As pleased as Argenal was with the victory, he said, “now I have to go break down some film of Jalen Green.
