Elza, who was previously Executive Director of Athletics at Northwest Independent School District, will begin in August and will oversee the UIL athletic department and administer athletic activities for UIL member schools. Elza fills the position recently vacated by Dr. Mark Cousins, who moved into a new role as UIL Director of Compliance, Eligibility and Education on July 1.
“It is a tremendous honor to be hired as the Director of Athletics of the University Interscholastic League,” Elza said. “I am grateful for the vote of confidence to lead an athletic program that is known as one of the best in the nation. Prior to her role at Northwest ISD, Elza served as Assistant Athletic Director of Allen Independent School District. She was also a head softball coach in Garland and Allen. Elza holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Southwest Texas State, a Masters of Education Administration from Texas A&M Commerce and a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Lamar University. Elza is a graduate of Waco Midway High School, where she participated in basketball, track and softball.
“Dr. Susan Elza has been dedicated to UIL athletics for many years, and brings to the League extensive knowledge and a commitment to continued excellence,” said Dr. Charles Breithaupt, UIL Executive Director. “Her experience and leadership will be an invaluable asset to the UIL and extracurricular athletics in Texas.”

Houston’s NRG Stadium to Host 2015 UIL Football Championship Games

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced today that the 2015 UIL Football State Championship games would be played at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

All 11-man UIL Football Championship Games will be played December 17-19, 2015 at NRG Stadium. Houston last hosted the UIL Football Championship Games for the largest conference in 2008 at the formerly named Reliant Stadium.
“The UIL Football State Championships are truly a marquee event with a legion of fans dedicated to the best football in Texas,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “The League looks forward to bringing the football finals to Houston’s NRG Stadium for a great championship experience.”
The 2015 football state championships will mark the fifth year all 11-man championship football games will be played at one pre-determined location. AT&T Stadium began hosting all 11-man games in 2011. The UIL has determined the site for the largest conference football state championship games since 2006.
“We all know that High School Football is big in Texas and it’s something we’re also well-versed in hosting at NRG Stadium,” said Kevin Hoffman, Executive Director of Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation. “This will be our first time hosting the UIL High School Football Championship games in NRG Stadium and we hope to secure even more in the years to come. These 10 championship games will bring football fans from all over Texas to NRG Stadium in celebration of our youth and athletic achievement.”

Hopefully her first move will be to set up a "League of Their Own" run for a state crown, to include open border schools and privates. Maybe a new policy called just do the best you can with who-ever you can get would be another consideration. It ain't going back folks!

And a darn good softball coach she was. Multiple district coach of the year awards. She's also an all around good person.
