Wisconsin Signee former SOC RB Stevenson denied Admissions

7/23. Wisconsin running back signee Jordan Stevenson (Dallas/South Oak Cliff) was denied admissions by the University of Wisconsin.
Badgers coach Paul Chryst and running backs coach John Settle both spoke to Stevenson this afternoon and informed him that Wisconsin's Chancellor denied the student-athlete admissions.
247Sports.com has confirmed this situation through a source on both ends.
Stevenson will receive his release from Wisconsin in the morning and be eligible to attend a new school of his choice as he's an NCAA qualifier.
The four-star recruit is ranked as the nation's No. 17 running back and the No. 30 prospect in Texas in the 2016 class by 247Sports.com Composite Rankings.
7/24. In less than 45 minutes after receiving his release, Stevenson spoke with coaches from nine different college programs, including Oregon State, Nebraska, Louisville, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Texas Tech, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee.
Of the group, Stevenson said that three schools "stick out" early- those are the Beavers, Huskers and Vols.
-Stevenson had a previous relationship with Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen, who was formally the head coach at Wisconsin and accepted the four-star running backs original commitment to the Badgers. He also likes that Oregon State runs a spread offense.
-Nebraska could be considered the very early "leader in the clubhouse" because of the Huskers' depth chart. Stevenson is scheduled to speak with head coach Mike Riley tonight via phone.
-The Crimson Tide's depth chart at running back is not working in their favor, but Stevenson said that Alabama recruiterBilly Napier communicated to him that the Tide could lose both Derrick Henry and Kenyan Drake to the NFL Draft following this season, essentially gutting the depth at that position. Stevenson is set to speak with Tide head coach Nick Saban tonight.
-Stevenson also could possibly communicate with coaches from Miami (Fla.) and Michigan this evening.

Wisconsin admissions are no joke. He wasn't the only kid from Wisconsin's 2015 signing class to be denied. Stevenson is an NCAA qualifier and will find an FBS school to play for. As the article states the top 3 schools leading for Stevenson's services are Oregon State, Nebraska, and Tennessee. He has been in talks with Alabama but Stevenson is concerned with their depth chart.

On a somewhat unrelated note, 2015 SOC WR JF Thomas did not qualify at Texas Tech and will most likely have to go the JUCO rotue.

The player, parent, coaches, and counselors all share and play an important role in making sure that a student athlete meets all the admission requirements(gpa,act-sat score, any other) at their prospective schools. This due diligence is ongoing and should take place before the athlete makes that final committment to that specific school or any other school the athlete is considering.

That's the sensible approach and that would be the perfect example to go by but unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, that isn't always followed. A lot of these kids and parents as well, get lost in the excitement of the recruiting game and don't take all the necessary information in to account prior to making a decision. College coaches, most of them, ask for a transcript prior to accepting a commitment from a recruit. Transcripts are not requested by colleges prior to extending a scholarship offer though, recruiting is a timing game and the early bird gets the worm in some cases. To me it seems that the SOC support staff might need to help their kids a little bit more regarding realistic college choices.

You said it exactly. Not only SOC but all. Most think or have the attitude I can play/attend a major rather than D1, D2, FBS, juco without counting or considering the cost/importance of what it involves. Would be interesting to see statistics from down thru the years of those athletes that initially went to major then left for lower and graduated or did not complete.

Less than a week ago, former standout South Oak Cliff running back Jordan Stevenson was without a football home — reportedly denied admissions by Wisconsin, and granted his release on July 24.
His time as an unattached prospect was short-lived. On Thursday, Stevenson tweeted that he was signing with Nebraska, and would be in Lincoln on Friday to join its storied football program.
