Trinity all decade team (2000-2009)

EULESS -- Since head coach Steve Lineweaver arrived in 2000, the Trinity Trojans have established themselves as one of the truly elite teams in the state of Texas. While much of the credit for their success goes to him and the talented staff he has assembled, the Trojans have had a lot of talent pass through that made it possible.

A big part of the Trojans' success has been the diversity of the team and the following list of the All-Decade team, (2000-2009) reflects that with 4 different countries and seven nationalties represented.

Offense

Quarterback - Trevor Vittatoe (2004-2005)
Vittatoe was a two year starter and led Trinity to a record of 25-5, including the school's first ever state championship victory. Trevor is entering his senior season at UTEP and has already thrown for 9,683 yards, 75 touchdowns and just 29 interceptions.

Tailback - Dimitri Nance (2004-2005)
Set the school record for most rushing yards in a season with 3,031 and ran for a school-record 45 touchdowns in his senior season. Nance just completed his college career at Arizona State by leading the Sun Devils in rushing with 805 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns, averaging 4.2 yards per carry.

Fullback - Tray Robinson (2006-2008)
A three year starter who ran for 1,995 yards and 40 touchdowns in his career. He was also a devestating blocker and capable pass receiver. Recruited to play at the University of Nebraska where he saw time as a true freshman, carrying the ball 38 times for 159 yards and two touchdowns.

Wide Receiver - Marcus King (2004-2005)
King's emergence at receiver in 2005 helped stretch opponents defenses to give the Trojans the balance that was needed on offense to win their first state title. He was recruited to play at the University of North Texas by Todd Dodge but his career never panned out.Brandon Carter

Wide Receiver - Brandon Carter (2009-2010)
The only member of the All-Decade team currently playing with the team. Carter turned in a monster season, leading the team in receiving with 32 catches for 745 yards and six touchdowns. No catch was bigger than the game-winner against Austin Westlake in the state title game. He's arguably the best athlete ever to come through Trinity after making contributions at quarterback, punter, receiver and defensive back in his first year as a starter.

Tight End - Jordan Scoggins (2004-2005)
Scoggins was a dominant run blocker who had good hands and just enough speed to keep defenses honest with his pass-catching abilities. He was recruited to play at the University of North Texas by head coach Todd Dodge.

Offensive Lineman - Ofa Mohetau (2001-03)
At 6-foot-3 and 335 pounds, Mohetau not only looked the part but also performed at a very high level all three years that he started at Trinity. Committed to play at BYU but his college career never panned out for various reasons. He was considered by many to be the top overall offensive lineman prospect in the country in the class of 2003 and earned all-state honors his senior season.

Offensive Lineman - Saia Falahola (2004-05)
One of the most dominant lineman to ever pass through Trinity. He earned all-state honors his senior season. Recruited to play at Arizona State where he has been moved to the defensive side of the ball. He spent this past season as part of the Sun Devils rotation at defensive tackle.

Offensive Lineman - Josh Ayers (2005-2006)
Ayers was a solid performer who started off at tight end and moved to tackle, earning first-team all-state honors from both the AP and TSWA. Was recruited to Texas A&M but never was able to crack the starting lineup.

Offensive Lineman - Manaaki Vaitai (2005-2006)
Like all the others was voted to the all-state team. At 6-foot-3 and 295 pounds, Vaitai was a road-grader, clearing massive holes for the talented stable of running backs that Trinity has become known for. Recruited to BYU and redshirted his freshman year. Has yet to make a major impact at the collegiate level.

Offensive Lineman - Nate Adams (2005-2006)
The least heralded of the group but also one of the most underrated. Adams was a coach's favorite for his ability to play with great technique. Recruited to play at Western Illinois.

Defense

Defensive Lineman - Youri Yenga (2005-2006)
The Dallas Morning News Player of the Year in 2006 earned all-state honors after leading the team in tackles and sacks his senior season. Turned down offers from larger colleges to stay close to home and play at SMU where he's been an impact player.

Defensive Lineman - Henry Niutei (2004-2005)
Nieutei was a two-year starter who earned All-District and All-Area honors. Recruited to TCU where he has been a solid backup on a deep defensive line.

Defensive Lineman - Ryan McBean (2002-2003)
Was the first defensive lineman at Trinity to get major college attention in the Steve Lineweaver era. Earned first team all-district honors and was name the Dallas Morning News defensive MVP in his senior season. Eventually played at Oklahoma State and was drafted in the NFL by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Defensive Lineman - Siosaia Tuipulotu (2007-2008)
Earned All-State honors his senior year and was a key contributor in the 2007 state championship season. Recruited to play at Utah where he is currently a freshman.

Linebacker - Brendan Puhulu (2003-2004)
Pahulu was a two-year starter who was a little bit of a late bloomer. Led the team in tackles his senior year and earned a scholarship to the University of Houston where he started for three years.

Linebacker - Lee Foliaki (2001-2002)
Pound-for-pound was arguably the hardest hitting linebacker to pass through Trinity. Recruited to play at Texas A&M where he had a respectable career, totaling 109 tackles, 7 sacks and 4 interceptions.

Linebacker Saia Moeakiola (2004-2005)
Combined intensity with intelligence to lead the team in tackles as a senior and was a key contributor to the first state title in 2005.

Defensive back - Prinz Kande (2005-2008)
The first player to ever earn playing time as a freshman, played in more games than any player in the history of the school. More importantly, he was a major contributor in the secondary on the Trojans' state championship teams in 2005 and 2007. Recruited to Kansas where he saw time as a Freshman and will likely be a three year starter.

Defensive back - Chase Weber (2002-2003)
A dynamic playmaker who led the team in interceptions and earned all-area honors during his two years. Went on to play in college at Colorado State.

Defensive back - Charles Oliver (2001-2002)
Like Weber, Oliver was an athletic player who gained a reputation for making big plays in crucial moments. Went on to play in college at the University of Wyoming.

Defensive back - Desmond Williams (2002-2003)
One of the top athletes ever to come through Trinity high school. Led the team in interceptions his senior year with 4 and was considered one of the top defensive backs in the state. He turned down offers from LSU and Texas A&M to attend Arkansas.

Kicker - Pery Negreiros (2007-2008)
A clutch kicker who made the difference with timely kicks late in games.

Punter - Isaac Arellano (2006-2007)
It was rare to see the punter on the field but on the few occasions that one was needed, those close to the team would agree that Arellano was the best.

Kick Returner - Charles Oliver (2001-2002)
It's always hard to find a good return specialist but Oliver had a knack for changing the momentum of games with his ability to set the Trinity offense up with good field position.

Summary
The first decade of this millenium will be hard to top. Trinity posted a cumulative record of 116-19. Only Southlake Carroll (128-18) and Katy (131-18) can claim better records. The Trojans also advanced to the state title game three times, winning all of them.

They lost to the eventual state champions three other times - Lufkin (Semi-Finals in 2001), Tyler Lee (Semi-Finals in 2004) and Southlake Carroll (area round in 2006) and Allen (Regional finals in 2008). The common thread in each loss was a Division I caliber quarterback. Lufkin's Reggie McNeal (Texas A&M), Carroll's Riley Dodge (North Texas) and Allen's Tucker Carter were all tremendous players who led their respective team's to victory. In short, the road to a state title in the 2000's went through the modest middle class suburb towns of Bedford and Euless.

The team's success didn't go unnoticed by the national media as they were the subject of numerous stories on network television and the Wall Street Journal. The school gained more national attention through its Gatorade commercial and of course "The Haka". They rallied around teammate Trevor Vittatoe when his mother was killed tragically in a car wreck shortly before his senior season. A band of brothers from all over the world made Trinity one of the most unique stories in high school sports.

Less than a month removed from their third state title, the Trojans will enter the 2010 season as one of the favorites to win it all again. Matching the success of the last ten years will be a tall order but the ground work for future success has been laid. That's due in large part to the return of head coach Steve Lineweaver and a pipeline of talent that seems to never end.

It's that play where the ball goes in the air initiated by a throwing motion using the hand & arm (not the feet). Your players try to catch it, again using hands & arms not feet.

If you're bored some hot summer day, here's a stat idea.............During the Lineweaver era, how many games have y'all had more kicking attempts (FGs, XPs, Free Kicks and Punts) than passing attempts?? My guess would be about 1/3.

Don't worry about Trinity's passing game that's all about to change soon enough! ..Maybe not so much this year but when that up and coming Sophomore Toby harrah III steps in at Qb in the future they won't have any choice but to use his great arm!

With Caleb Canoe and Simeon Ellsworth running the ball and also being Sophomores next year along with Toby harrah and the Euless Jr high defense Which was dominating I think the future for Trinity is really bright over the next 3 years

I'm excited about Trinity's coming year the transition to a new offense has been smooth and the passing game no longer looks forced. Teams will no longer be able to defend ET like the years past and disregard the pass. The defense has been let loose, no more bend but don't break- it is an attack defense. The D-line 4 studs 299,287,282, and 278 lbs with plenty of depth, DB's have great speed and size, watch Devin Abdullah, LB he is a stud. O-line has plenty of experience, good size, and two soph's will start.. There are like 8 RB's with great talent.

A note about Natee, the growth at QB is tremendous, he will excel at QB this year. We have three QB's behind him with tremendous promise that should set us up the next couple years as well.

There is a lot of great talent moving up from JV's and freshmen teams plenty of speed guys-RB,DB, and WR's.

Not saying not true and probably so, but how would one know when Maile has not played enough to fully know what kind of runner he would be. The sample size is to small to compare. I don't think many knew Tyler would be the bull runner he has been at QB until we actually saw it. We all saw him the year before playing FB with limited carries, but nothing like we saw this past year, which was nothing short of incredible power running. Tyler touches the ball every play, Maile barely see's the field, so I think it's really hard to compare what kind of runner he could be, unless given a full season to display that.

Come on man. I'll give you that we haven't seen Maile play a lot, but from what we have seen there is no comparison. With Natee, we knew how good he was and could be from game one. That wasn't on very many carries either.

Thing is, there was a lot of talk of Natee leading into his soph year. More talk about him than Wilson. There was a little talk of Maile coming into his Soph year (last season) because of course we needed a QB to replace Hammock. I just think the excitement level about Natee coming in was far greater than Wilson or Maile a year later.
